It is almost an inconsequential mile-mark that only matters to us. But, as humanity, we would have hurled something that has gotten the farthest from us.
Voyager 1 that was launched in 1977, is the farthest spacecraft from our planet, currently exploring interstellar space 15.8 billion miles away. Traveling at thousands of miles per minute, in my lifetime Voyager will have this year, traveled a distance that light takes a day to travel. It is remarkable reminder of how tiny we are in the expanse of the universe.
Now it seems like data bit rate is very low and weak — weaker than dialup internet and requiring powerful antennas to send the smallest signals, but somehow Voyager is still “alive”. It is currently at heliopause — the boundary of interstellar space and sun’s sphere — measuring magnetic ripples data. These glimpses of beautiful are rarest things of human experience.
